Sun Life will stop paying certain osteopaths

Sun Life Financial, is advising us of recent changes to the eligibility with osteopathic providers. Sun Life regularly reviews the admissibility of health care providers and their associations. Because certain associations do not meet the administrative standards required by the insurer, Sun Life will no longer process claims from osteopathic providers registered with the following associations:

– Ontario Osteopathic and Alternative Medicine Association (OOAMA)
– Society of Osteopaths of Canada (SOC)
– Société des ostéopathes du Québec (SOQ)

There will be a grace period for services received in 2017, ending April 15, 2017.  Sun Life will honor claims submitted for services provided by these associations during this period. Osteopathic providers have been advised of the situation and they have the option to register with another osteopathic association approved by Sun Life.

If you would like to validate if your osteopath is concerned with these changes, we invite you to use the function ‘Provider look up’’ of your Sun Life mobile app.  You can also validate the information by phone with the Sun Life claims department at 1-800-361-6212.
